MHS Ballroom Club Dances Their Hearts Out

The MHS Ballroom Club danced their hearts out at the recent Youth Ballroom Blitz Competition held in Orlando a few weeks ago. Eighteen MHS dancers ranging from beginner to advanced competed against other teens from all over the country in this annual dance event organized by World Promotions, Inc. Hundreds of dancers from high schools and colleges around the country competed in various Ballroom and Latin dance styles and then were treated to a “Mega Show” with the current World 10 Dance Champions, Nickolai Pillipenchuk & Natliya Skorikova as the highlight of the event. Mrs. Tess Chawi, owner of Sarabay Dance Club, and longtime business partner of MHS, sponsored this trip and gave her students a chance to see the exciting world of competition Ballroom Dancing. Up next, the Club will travel to Tampa for the 2012 Spring Fling Competition on Feb. 5.

Ballroom Club is Outstanding!

With 21 dancers strong, the MHS Ballroom Club dominated the Youth Division in the Annual Tampa "Spring Fling" and danced in over 160 heats to win many top honors. Seniors, Xander Chawi and Maria Sol Rivera received all 1st place awards for their competitive partnership. Advanced dancers, Jon Kesler and Phil Morehouse were outstanding in their performances with dancers from the Ballroom Club.

These dedicated students, under the direction of Mrs. Tess Chawi of Sarabay Dance Club, danced many different styles in ballroom and latin including Waltz, Foxtrot, Tango, Cha Cha, Salsa, Swing, Rumba, Merengue and Hustle. Congrats to the Ballroom Club!

Ballroom Dancing Club Will Meet on Tuesdays

The Ballroom Dance Club will be meeting on Tuesdays from 2:30 - 3:15 in room 378. It is free to all students who are interested in learning to dance. Come out to see what all the excitement is about!
